Birding in Sulawesi, Halmahera & West Papua

If you're looking for birds that you won't find anywhere else, you're in the right part of the world. I organize birding journeys across Sulawesi, Halmahera, and West Papua, three remarkable regions where isolation, diverse habitats, and unique evolutionary histories have created an extraordinary variety of endemic and restricted-range birds. From lowland rainforest and volcanic landscapes to montane forests and remote islands, every region offers a very different experience.

Sulawesi is where my own journey began, and it is especially rewarding for its remarkable endemic birdlife. Halmahera offers a more remote Wallacean experience, with species such as Wallace's Standardwing and other island specialties. Further east, West Papua opens the door to an entirely different world of Papuan birds, including the legendary Birds-of-Paradise and many other species found nowhere else.

Whether you come with a specific target list, want to photograph wildlife, or simply want to explore these extraordinary places, I can help you choose the right trip. Below, you'll find the birding journeys currently available through Rangga Trails, from shorter destination-focused trips to longer expeditions combining several regions. If you have something specific in mind, talk to me and we can build the journey around you.
